Going… going… gone?

This is certainly not a “normal” post on my part.  However, we’re desperate!  Two years ago one of them caught fire.  18 months ago another one quit.  6 months ago one decided to work whenever it darn well pleased.  Then the door stopped working and the front glass recently shattered.  Any clue as to what I am talking about?

That’s right, our stove/range is almost dead!  We are down to one burner and no oven.  It’s time to replace the junker! Anyone who helps us find a fantastic deal on a new (to us) slide in downdraft range is entitled to the fantastic “first meal” from said stove (and we make a great meal!).  Seeing as how the summer is almost over (as you can tell outside) we will not be grilling as much, a new stove is needed for survival. So, basically, you can look at it as saving our lives!

Because it is an “island” stove, we do need it to be a downdraft (but we will contemplate duel fuel, though we’d have to install the gas line, so electric is preferred).  As I stated above, this is a very strange request, but you never know what networking will do?  We have scoured Craigslist for the last two months only to be denied the pleasure of purchasing by not being the first ones in the electric (mail) door.

So, what do you say?  Wanna come over for dinner?  Now you know the ticket!

Grace,

Brian

Sizzling Tri-Tips! Yummmmmmm!

Sizzling Tri-Tips! Yummmmmmm!

Every now and again I need affirmation that you’re out there reading this; so I will post some sort of “comments needed blog” (though I love comments on any of my posts).  Here is one I hope produces some good thoughts.  The subject you need to comment on: Your Favorite Summer Meal!

Last week in Scottsdale, with my Lifeboat (you can go back several posts and read through the entire trip), we ate a lot of meals at the rental house!  Because I did the menu I got to pick the things I like the most!  So, I’ll start the dialogue with my ultimate summer meal that I made (and I’m kept mine financially feasible, you can go over the top if you’d like):

Grilled (by me) Tri-tip steak from Costco, Large Russet Baked Potato (with butter, cheese, chives and sour cream), Corn on the Cob (though we didn’t do this in AZ)  and a Green Salad (with Ranch on the side).  I’ll go with an Arnold Palmer (combo of iced tea and lemonade) to drink.

Your turn, what is your ultimate summer meal?

Grace,
Brian

*I categorized this as a “contest” because if anyone wants to be the first to have the Aabys over for this Favorite Summer Meal, you win!  (you win nothing but a fun evening hosting us, but you still win.)

Contest

Elisabeth and I had a wonderful day/evening anniversary celebration.  Spent some time at the Mercer Island Starbucks just chatting and doing a little work (she was reading for a meeting she has with a girl she meets with/disciples).  Good relaxing time.  Then we went to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse for a WONDERFUL dinner.  We had never eaten at one before.

We were blessed with some gifts at our going away party at BPPC and felt so fortunate to have such a treat last night!  The steak was soooo good!

Anyway, we had a “Brush with fame” last night as we sat next to two celebrities.  I will update with hints until somebody wins the free Coffee Card up for grabs.  Name both of the celebrities.

Who am I?

Who am I?

And who am I?

And who am I?

I’ll slowly add more clues:

1. Similar to the last contest

2. TV

3. These two were in Seattle because ESPN was in Anaheim (Los Angeles)

***WINNER***

Congrats to Nathan Schlaud.  Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo are the TV commentators for the Boston Red Sox. Because ESPN was doing the game on Sunday these two were “off.”  The funny thing, not only did they not have the game on Sunday, but Saturday FOX was doing the LA/BoSox game too, so they actually had two days off!  We chatted a couple minutes.  Nice guys who felt bad for Seattle fans!

Nathan, a coffee card is coming your way soon.

Grace,
Brian

Contest #2

Name This Celebrity

*If you are this celebrity, or if you know this celebrity (specifically, married to him) or are related to me, you may not answer this question.  Winner gets a free Starbucks card.  I’ll post hints until someone gets it.  We’ll start just with the pic, then check back, hints will be posted below.

Hint #1: Uses his vocal chords a lot.

Hint #2: Is not a mormon, but people might think he is.

Hint #3: Though on a baseball trip, he “calls” Basketball and Football his favorites.

Hint #4: It is not David Locke (but Wes is on the right path).

Hint #5: He’s a professional, but doesn’t “call” professionals.

Hint #6: Lives near a lake where he could float, but it isn’t Dead.

Hint #7: His voice can be heard, but he can’t be seen.

Hint #8: He is a white man (as you can see) and he cannot be called the “color” guy.

**CONGRATS**

Jan B. is our winner.  How funny, there is a Jan A. and Jan B. who frequent the blog.  Shoot me an email Jan B. and I’ll get you your prize.

Mike Lageschulte was on the trip with us.  He and his wife, Becky, were really sweet.  I got to know them a bit and they said they were going to check out the blog.  Mike is the play-by-play guy for the University of Utah football and basketball programs.  He does the Play-by-play for the radio.  He is friends with David Locke, who was on KJR here in Seattle for years.
