Family Fun

Last weekend was beautiful in Seattle.  We took advantage of it by doing one of our fall traditions with the kids–The Pumpkin Patch!  We found a very cute farm near our house and took to the fields.  Each of the kids got their own pumpkin, Halle even carried hers off the field!

Picture and Personality

Many of you have not had the privilege of meeting my son, Will, yet.  For those of you who have, you can cheat and participate as well if you’d like!

They say a picture says 1000 words… well, I don’t want 1000, but a couple will be fine. When I uploaded this picture to my macbook I had to chuckle, I think this picture, for some reason, shows Will’s personality so much.

So, based on this pic, and as an experiment to see if a picture does speak volumes, what are the words that come to mind to describe Will’s personality traits?  Keep in mind, I have the power to delete any answer I don’t like, so don’t take any shots at me/us!  Ha.What do you think this picture says about his personality?

Feeling Old

Saturday was a day of discovery.  The problem, my discovery: I’m getting old.  My knees (and really my legs in general) are really achy.  The bones, muscles and joints are all talking back to me right now.

What did you do, run  a 10k, climb Mt. Si or go mountain biking?

Hey Brian, did you do an all day workout at 24 Hour fitness?

These would be appropriate assumptions/questions.  But no; I installed a gas line under our house.  My friend David came over… he was the “gas guy” and I was simply his helper.  But spending 9 hours on one’s hands and knees in a crawl space, installing pipe and finding an angle to tighten the joints of said pipe apparently wreaks havoc on one’s body.

The good news: We will have our new stove/range installed on Tuesday (we are switching to a dual fuel, thus the need for the gas to be routed to the kitchen).  And, on top of that, we are now ready for a gas insert (if we ever desire to do that) in our fireplace AND we’re ready to switch off propane and use natural gas for grilling in the summer (ahhh, no more trips to refill the propane tank mid-grilling!).  So really, it was three projects in one!

So, yes, it is worth the stiff muscles and swollen knees; bu not sure it was worth the discovery that I’m getting old.

The Car

Aaby family Conversation Last Friday:

Halle: Daddy, have I told you about the car I want to invent?  It only costs $10!

Me: No Halle, tell me.

Halle: Well, it has volume control for each of the seats, so you can control the volume of the person speaking from any seat.

(at this point I was very much intrigued, I like that invention a lot!)

Halle Continued: And it has a bunch of other accessories that are really great.

TIME OUT!

My six year old daughter knows, understands and uses the word, “accessories?”

smart, but still a kid!

New Toys

I remember waking up the day after I received my new bike!  The excitement, knowing I was going to be able to ride (all day).  When I was 16 my family purchased a hot tub; that first week, even month, I was so excited to soak.  At 19 I bought my first vehicle, a B2200 Mazda pick-up (aka “BJ”).  There was something about jumping into it, knowing it was mine.  I could go on, our first house, a newer car, having kids (yes, I know they aren’t toys, but sometimes I still act like it!).

Yesterday, my lovely wife, went to the giant garage sale at Audrey’s school and purchased a “Bouce-A-Roo” for William.  I was invited back to the days-gone-by of my childhood when I received a new play-thing.  The excitement and anticipation!  Will loves it, even as I type, he is bouncing and giggling.  The girls are getting quite a kick out watching him as well.

Will turns five months old tomorrow, what a blessing he has been to this family.  He brings us much joy and is very loved by the four other members of the family… okay, back to watching him bounce in his new toy!

Look Who’s Blogging

She’s been a faithful reader; now we’ll see if she’s up to the task of being an oftenblogger (yes, I made that word up).  For a slightly different view of the Aaby happenings, I invite you to check out Elisabeth’s new blog. Warning: She’s a much better writer, so don’t abandon me just because you’re getting Filet Mingon over there; I still hope to provide a solid tube steak of writing!  You can check her out by linking off my side bar links or by clicking here.

Pics from the Fair

This week has been incredibly busy with limited WiFi access, so I haven’t been able to blog as consistently.  However, I do have time to post a couple of my favorite pics from our time at the fair!  Check out our fun time at the Puyallup!

Hope all of you in WA get to “Do the Puyallup.”
